The Art of Saying Goodbye

I have not mastered the art of saying goodbye. I generally leave sniffling and wet, wishing I’d been able to more clearly express my gratitude. Because I am grateful. I am grateful for my wonderful family, my foundation and solid support. I’m grateful for my friends – old and new – who have blessed me in so many ways. I’m grateful for my education, the place I’ve grown up in, my easy access to church, my childhood, and so many other things. I’m grateful for Minnesota, but – right now – I’m grateful I get to leave it for an entirely new adventure
On Wednesday, January 25, at 10:30 AM, I will be leaving this lovely state for Guatemala. For the next four months. Having never been anywhere. It’s going to be difficult. And it’s going to be absolutely lovely. I will be studying abroad in Antigua, Guatemala, taking classes, as well as doing some work in an organization called Hermano Pedro. We – the other Bethel students and I – will be traveling back and forth between “home stays” in Antigua and Magdalena.
It’s certainly hard to say goodbye, but I can’t wait to follow God where He is leading me now. I know I will change and grow and learn in an entirely different matter. It’s going to be so worth it. So goodbye – for now – Minnesota and all that is familiar. Hello dreams and aspirations and Guatemala.
